Privacy notice
What we keep, and why.
We collect as little as we can get away with. No accounts, no tracking, no advertising cookies.

What we collect when you write a review
- Which fair you attended, and whether you went as a couple or an exhibitor.
- Your ratings and what you wrote.
- Your email address, if you give it — so we can come back to you about your review if we need to.
- A one-way scrambled version of your IP address. We cannot turn it back into your address; it only lets us spot one person posting many reviews.
What gets published
Your rating, your headline, your review and the month you wrote it. Your email address is never published and is not shown to organisers or anyone else.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Publishing your review is what you asked us to do when you submitted it. Keeping a scrambled IP address is our legitimate interest in stopping fake reviews, which is also what makes the site worth reading.
How long we keep it
Published reviews stay attached to a fair indefinitely, because a fair’s history is the point of the site. Reviews we decline to publish are deleted. Email addresses are held for as long as the review is published.
Who we share it with
Nobody. We do not sell data and we do not pass reviewer details to fair organisers. The site runs on Vercel and the reviews are stored in a Neon database hosted in London; both process data on our behalf and neither uses it for anything else.
When a review arrives we get an alert email telling us one is waiting. It deliberately contains no review text, no ratings and no email address.
Cookies
We set no advertising or analytics cookies. The only cookie the site sets is one that keeps the site owner signed in to the moderation page.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — including taking your review down. Email tellus@thefairreview.co.uk and we will deal with it within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
